Landscaping and the dry riverbed of love!

Here is what we have been up to lately! Of course we were meaning to do our landscaping back in May and June, but we must enjoy punishing ourselves because we started our landscape project in July. You would think we would have learned about working outside in intense heat and misery from doing our roof back in Ogden in July... Anyhow, we hope you enjoy our progress from the comfort of your computer chair inside!

Before (not a true before- weeds have been eliminated, topsoil added and leveled when this picture was taken, we paid for that to be done though) I really should have taken pictures of the back too, oh well...

In progress. I'm using garden hoses to figure what path the dry river bed should take. It took me about 30+ attempts before I was happy. It wasn't one of my happiest moments. Oh yeah and you can see a few miracle patches of grass from our seeding attempt. Good thing that failed because we changed our mind about that anyway!

Ta-dah! We will be putting grass down where you see dirt in the front. And some trees and shrubs in the gravel bed so isn't so dry and desert looking.
Matt did the dry river bed while me and the kids went out of town. He really hated putting it in. It involved digging our impossible rocky soil, collecting orphan cobblestones in our neighborhood, suffering in the July heat. It's now complete because I wanted a dry riverbed so badly and I have a husband who loves me so much! I'm really going to enjoy to see it every time I come home as a symbol of his love for me for a long time to come and I think it looks awesome!
It's exciting to see everything coming together, we still have some extra work ahead of us... if you want to give me free landscape advice on where to put things please do!

It looks SO good! I personally think that doing the yard is harder than building a house! One of the reasons we are staying in our home FOREVER! :)
